English Page History - Second Part

Par exemple dans le présent message l'expression : "... and almost all the newly built houses fit in well."

The revolutionary period.

The local nobility were robbed of their property.

The priests were harshly persecuted.
But the rest of the population did not suffer severely.

At that time there were 452 inhabitants in Voillans :
we produced oats, wheat, rye, and reared cattle, sheep and horses.

Second Empire Earth

Voillans produced iron ore and operated two quarries there.

Requisitions made during the War of 1870 ruined the inhabitants.
The village lost population from 1850, in 1975 there were only 96 inhabitants.

The village in 1906

Twentieth century

In the first World War the population of 260 lost ten young soldiers.

In the second World War only one young soldier was killed.
The village was liberated by US troops on the night of September 8/9, 1944, without loss.

Since then the village has seen a spectacular revival.

Old houses have been restored and almost all the newly built houses fit in well.

Old and new ones
